Monogahela Wilderness passed and mountian bike trails lost?

Postby gamtnbkr on Thu Apr 02, 2009 5:02 pm

I saw where the Omnibus Wilderness bill was signed into law this week. What trails will be lost in the Monogahela? Any new trails created as replacements?

Anyone upset about it?

WVMBA needs to....

I am plenty upset about it and I think that these laws are outdated and unfair - we need to pair up with IMBA and anyone else who advocates active use of wilderness to change this so that we can annex wilderness to preserve our beautiful state, but at the same time allow bike use (best of both worlds!) Looks like mtn bikers aren't interested

Postby gamtnbkr on Tue Apr 14, 2009 1:14 am

I was hoping that my posting would bring out many comments from fellow mtn bikers. But after 2 weeks, only 1 comment and 1 vote on the survey about wilderness designations and trail losses. As long as the mountain bike community appears disinterested, expect wilderness coming to a trail near you soon! Such a disappointment. We have only ourselves to blame. The time for action is before the proposal gains momentum. Not after it is proposed!

I couldnt agree more with the post above - we NEED to be vocal and take action or find a way to unite people under a common umbrella (this doesnt seem to be effectively doing so) so that we can make WV a better place to bike and live! All you long time readers first time posters make some noise-----
