Let me introduce myself.

My name is Jim and I'm a mountain biker...way back from 1992. I also ride a 4 wheeler / quad set up for GNCC racing through the woods.

What are your thoughts on Hatfield Mcoy...as a mt. biker?

I've spent many days riding on my quad and covered a couple hundred miles of these trails. There are 500 or so miles of trails total. Most trails are double track.

Friends of mine ( between 6 and 10 of us ) ride these trails as a group twice a year. We usually stay 2 to 4 days and ride every day.

I wonder why I've never seen mt. bikers on the trails. I've never really seen a mt. bike near any trail head.

Also, we met some locals who showed us the "local" trails...these were very nice.

BTW, the locals like visitors...but do not like the Hatfield Mcoy trails.

Just curious.

Jim

Jim,
As someone who used to race motorcycles I like the H/M area very much. Are there not some trails over there that are bicycle specific and bikes/atv are not aloud on them? Maybe they see most of the bike traffic. But I would guess the idea of all the motor drive devives keep people from wanting to take there bike to h/m. Nothing like taking a honda 450f up the rear lol.. Just my thoughts.

I'm not aware of bicycle specific trails. There are single track trails that are very narrow and quads are not allowed.

I envision a point to point race or a dirt-tour de france...race mt bikes from town to town. It would be very different. Plenty of room for passing and the up hills would be insane.

On a different note, I'm looking forward to entering my first WVMBA race.

Jim

That sounds like a good idea. You never know....It may be a big event like the DH series at Snowshoe.

I would do it in a heart beat

I know this is an old topic but count me in also. Theres a reason you dont see any bikes near the trails.....nobody rides around here. I been riding in Wyoming County for the last 10 years or so and have yet to run into another biker anywhere but Twin Falls. Sad state of cycling around here...lol.

Paying money to ride double-track in Southern WV w/4wheelers does not sound that apealling to me.
Maybe the locals don't like the H-M partly for the same reason of mtb'rs - there are trails to ride without having a permit.
